12/21/10 Flyers skills competition

First no Richards due to a maintenance day and no Boucher due to having his wisdom teeth out.

The crowd for this event filled most of the lower bowl and the first two rows of the top.

True to their word the Flyers really did start the event at 5 with a team practice for an hour.

6:30 the players came out. Most were wearing baseball hats vs their helmets. Hartnell decided to get the crowd into it going from side to side doing the Hulk Hogan I can't hear you bit. There were alot of kids in the crows who responded to his actions.

Many of the players kids came out to watch from the Flyers bench.

The players did seem to enjoy this competition. They didn't seem to take it seriously but used it for some great fun.

James Van Reimsdyk was the star of the night participating in every event and winning most of them.

Here are the pictures

12/20/10 Panthers at Flyers

I don't feel the need to update Twitter points since the update was just yesterday.

Pictures from last night's game

http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/sets/72157625645162080/

The Flyers game was a complete stinker. I know that the Flyers get that once in a while, but 5-0 shut out to the Panthers. Really?

I feel like the Flyers tend to lose before fan things like the Carnival. I don't have every date of previous fan things to compare that but I know that in recent memory they home game before the carnival has not been a winning statistic . Tonight we have the Flyers doing a free skills competition for the fans.

I decided to take a statistical look at the Flyers record on the last home game before Christmas. In Some cases the Flyers played on Christmas I used those records. The Flyers are 24-12-5 the home game before Christmas, making last night a fluky thing.

Tonight's skills competition should be interesting. The tickets were free to the fans. Hopefully the Flyers will be up for the challenge tonight and put on a good show for the fans.

12/18/10 Heat @ Phantoms and Twitter points update

I was asked to explain twitter points.  3 points are given for an @ reply, 5 points for making me laugh and 20 points for playing in a game I bought tix to see them in.

Danny Syvret (@dannysyvret) 68
Andrew Rowe (@RoweAndrew) 60
Mike Testwuide (@MikeTestwuide) 40
Matt Moulson (@mmoulson) 20
Mike Cammalleri (@mcammalleri13) 20
Rob Schremp (@Robschremp) 4
Stefan Legein (@Stefanlegein) 3

Stefan lost points for still being out when I went to last nights game but he has made me laugh quite a bit lately.

Future possible points Danny Syvret 40, Stefan Legein 40, Mike Testwuide 40, Andrew Rowe 40, & Mike Cammalleri 20

It was really sad last night to see how empty a building that the Phantoms are playing in for a home crowd.
I will say what fans were there are very loyal.  The one guy by us was telling his friends that he attended the win on Friday and was wearing all the same clothing except for socks as the previous night because he did not want to jinx them winning.

I was truly happy getting to see the Heat live.  Phantoms vs Heat sounded great to me.  My loyalty was for the Phantoms who I wanted to see so badly succeed.

It was a good game.  I did not see the Phantoms get that deflated look after the Heat scored.  That to be was the most positive of signs.  This could be a corner turner for them.

Things I do have to question are the over use of some players.  The players that I felt were being over used look very tired and worn down to me.  I know this is the grind part of the season and I am hoping that the break on a positive note helps that worn down look I saw happening.

Ben Holmstrom was absolutely on fire on the faceoff dot last night.  I didn't keep track of his wins but I felt like it was a nice high percentage.  Kevin Marshall looked better then he has in previous outings, not as much out of position as I had previously seen.
Phantoms lack in the defensive defenseman category offensive defenseman are a good thing but not when their defense is shaky.  I love seeing Logan Stephenson out there.

At any rate 2 wins in a row for the Phantoms is a great thing.

I am at the Flyers game tomorrow and the Flyers skills competition on Tuesday.  Look for reports later this week and of course pictures.

12/8/10 Sharks at Flyers and Twitter points update

First I want to say that if you are not following Phantoms players Danny Syvret and Stefan Legein you truly are missing out on some really funny things.  Please follow these guys.

It was pointed out that I need to add Mike Testwuide & Andrew Rowe to my points list as I have seen them play and they are on twitter.

Danny Syvret (@dannysyvret) 48

Andrew Rowe (@RoweAndrew) 40
Mike Testwuide (@MikeTestwuide) 20
Matt Moulson (@mmoulson) 20
Mike Cammalleri (@mcammalleri13) 20
Stefan Legein (@Stefanlegein) 10
Rob Schremp (@Robschremp) 4

Future possible points Danny Syvret 40, Stefan Legein 40, Mike Testwuide 40, Andrew Rowe 40, & Mike Cammalleri 20

Ok well by now you have read all the analysis on the Sharks game so I am not even going to try to say anything further especially since the Flyers have already played again vs Toronto and won.  Who cares about the loss 2 days ago.

Just look at the pictures then....

My next hockey adventure is a Phantoms game.  Hopefully weather permitting I will attend.  Right now the weather looks promising.

12/4/10 Devils at Flyers & twitter points

I decided that I was so entertained by Stefan Legein this week that I am giving him 5 more points for his effort.

 Danny Syvret (@dannysyvret) 48
Matt Moulson (@mmoulson) 20
Mike Cammalleri (@mcammalleri13) 20
Stefan Legein (@Stefanlegein) 10
Rob Schremp (@Robschremp) 4

Future possible points Danny Syvret 40, Stefan Legein 40, Mike Cammalleri 20.

Devils at Flyers I felt that this game was one of those that the Devils like to lull you to sleep.  Maybe it is just because it was my first day game of the season.  I was glad the Flyers pulled it out in the end but I will say I was not sure about a good portion of the game as to how it may end.

The new camera worked well... I took a different spot for warmups that I could try some close up shots

Phantoms @ Bears &Twitter points update

Well as I tweeted the other night I am giving Danny Syvret and Stefan Legein each 5 points for making me laugh.  I think I really needed a laugh at that point in the day.  There banter was great.  Danny played in the game I saw last night.  Stefan did not.  So here are the new standings.

 Danny Syvret (@dannysyvret) 48
Matt Moulson (@mmoulson) 20
Mike Cammalleri (@mcammalleri13) 20
Stefan Legein (@Stefanlegein) 5
Rob Schremp (@Robschremp) 4

Future possible points Danny Syvret 40, Stefan Legein 40, Mike Cammalleri 20.

Phantoms at the Bears

Truly seeing the Phantoms take the long slow spiral down is not at all fun.  I was hoping that they had already hit bottom and would work their way back up.  Last night's game was proof that the way back up is long and far.  The coaches and players have a long road ahead of them.  I feel truly sad at the whole situation.  It is very much like watching the 06-07 Flyers.  If that is the model then this team will be back and it will be with a vengeance.

I see glimmers of hope with in the game.  I loved Logan Stephenson in front of the goalie.  He drew a penalty like a pro.  It looked like an absolute street fight in there.

Holmstrom & Wellwood both have alot of potential.  I can't wait til it is all unleashed.

11/22/10 Habs @ Flyers and Twitter points update

First the good news I successfully saw Mike Cammalleri play in the Center.  The first time since he has been a Hab.  20 points to him for that.

Second the bad news Stefan Legein is injured, will not play on Saturday.  I won't subtract his points til he doesn't play but I think you can see its coming.

Danny Syvret (@dannysyvret) 23
Matt Moulson (@mmoulson) 20
Stefan Legein (@Stefanlegein) 20
Mike Cammalleri (@mcammalleri13) 20
Rob Schremp (@Robschremp) 4

Expected points changes Danny Syvret +20, Stefan Legein -20, and Mike Cammalleri +20

Habs @ Flyers

This game to me was about two things.  Getting to watch Mike Cammalleri in person and testing out my new camera.  Both were successful.  The new camera is going to take getting used to especially the zoom at its highest setting.

So that you can compare here is a picture I took of the snow wagon with the camera I had been using
http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/5132740860/in/set-72157625156868995/

Here is a picture I took of the same wagon last night
http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/5203375468/
You can see how much closer I am able to get with the new camera.

Here is the full set of pictures.  Warmups are all pretty much Habs folks.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/sets/72157625457147372/
Back to the game itself  Mike was not the factor he usually is in these games.  I felt the Habs started strong and ended poor and the Flyers started poor, got lucky and pulled it off.  I was surprised at how disciplined the Flyers were in this game despite their lackluster start.

Have to see how the next game goes.  I think almost everyone knows how displeased I am with the NHL schedule makers for putting Calgary vs the Flyers on this Friday.  Black Friday the one day each year I can not attend a Flyers game.  I work til after the game starts.  I am sure many more of you out there are working a longer day then I am that day but I can never see the annual Black Friday matinee.  Ah well that is what DVR's are for right?

Next update will be this weekend after the Phantoms visit the Bears.  Should be interesting to see a rebuilt team + the new/old coach.

Syvret returns and twitter points update

Well I did not go to Syracuse as I had originally planned this past weekend so twitter points continue to stand as

 Danny Syvret (@dannysyvret) 23
Matt Moulson (@mmoulson) 20
Stefan Legein (@Stefanlegein) 20
Rob Schremp (@Robschremp) 4
Mike Cammalleri (@mcammalleri13) 0

Potential points Danny Syvret 20, Stefan Legein 20 and Mike Cammalleri 20.

Mike's points should get added after tonight and Syvret & Legein after Saturday.

Tonight I am attending the Habs at the Flyers.  I am again testing another new camera.  I think this one will be much more to my satisfaction as it is essentially a newer version of my current camera.   Follow my twitter stream tonight for pictures and updates.  Just a reminder I am a Mike Cammalleri fan.

Syvret is returned to the Flyers organization.  I know that everyone expects me to be on top of the world at his return.  I would say that I am not.  I do not see Syvret getting his NHL shot with his return to the Flyers.  I most want to see Syvret play full time at the NHL level.  Anaheim looked like a bright ray of hope for Syvret to keep with the NHL squad out of camp and then reality came.  He was up and down for October & November.  Ducks having complied too many defensemen and the injured now getting healthy Syvret was now on the outside.
Flyers trade and bring him back.  Where it is very much the same situation as the Ducks.  The Flyers have 7 healthy d on the roster with one coming back from injury in the near future.  Syvret most likely will not see ice time for the Flyers this season.
Syvret chose to sign elsewhere this summer.  In my opinion I would not expect him to be resigned by the Flyers next season either.

I did find it odd that the Flyers traded to get 2 players who chose to pass on the Flyers for other teams.  Is that Holmgren sending a message to players?

twitter points update and a few other things

Ok since it is a bit before I have another game I did not want to go that long with out a post.

First I want to welcome Stefan Legein to twitter and my twitter points

Danny Syvret (@dannysyvret) 23
Matt Moulson (@mmoulson) 20
Stefan Legein (@Stefanlegein) 20
Rob Schremp (@Robschremp) 4
Mike Cammalleri (@mcammalleri13) 0

Potential points Danny Syvret 20, Stefan Legein 20 and Mike Cammalleri 20.
Stefan's current points came from Phantoms at Hershey game.

The big topic this week from the GM meetings seemed to be the new All Star game Format.  Seemed like there was alot of fun discussion from it including Biznasty2point0's all star team.

Phantoms made a coaching change.  Hopefully it will help them right the season.

11/1/10 Canes at Flyers

First a Twitter points update.

My roommate said I was harsh to Rob Schremp so she pleaded his case to get back his point and to get a point for even responding to my original tweet.  The updated point are

 Danny Syvret @DannySyvret  23
 Matt Moulson @MMoulson 20
 Rob Schremp @RobSchremp 4
 Mike Cammalleri @Mcammalleri13 0

Question I got is why list Cammalleri if he doesn't have any points? I have tickets to see him play.  That is the next game I have for the Flyers is Canadiens at Flyers.  Hopefully I see Mike play.

Ok so last night's game.  I went with my cousin and barely made warmups.  I was very excited to get to see two NHL debuts for players.  First former Phantom Jon Matsumoto and second Current Flyer Eric Wellwood.  Great opportunities for both of these players.

 Jon Matsumoto
http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/5139991876/in/set-72157625172397075/

Eric Wellwood
http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/5139417983/in/set-72157625172397075/

I thought they both played well for the minutes they were given.

I also got to see one of my more favorite Canes

http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/5139379485/in/set-72157625172397075/

I did get a picture of Hartnell's goal

I give a hand to the upper rows of I believe section 208.  They were very much into trying to start a Bob chant.  So many folks are excited that there are shirts for Bob.   I think it is wonderful he is getting his chance and running with it.

I did feel it was the Flyers luck to let the Canes back into this game with a minute left.  I am not quite sure why the Flyers finish up games before the clock often does.

I will try to have some shenanigans before my next game.  There may be an AHL road trip in the near future.

10/30/10 Isles at Flyers & Introducing Twitter points

First I would like to introduce Twitter points for players.
Right now points are as follows
     Danny Syvret 23  (@dannysyvret)
     Matt Moulson 20  (@mmoulson)
     Rob Schremp 2  (@robschremp)
     Mike Cammalleri 0  (@mcammalleri13)
     Joffrey Lupul 0   (@Jlupul)

Points work like this 20 points for playing in a game I bought tickets to see you play in
1 point for each RT or response to a tweet.  Negative points for asking what game ( http://twitter.com/RobSchremp)
I will keep track and update as the season goes on.  I will also add players I am sure.

I have to say that I really was not that in the mood to attend this game last night.  The news of the club dismissing Pat Maroon and not providing much information as to why they would let go of the Phantoms leading scorer did not leave a good feeling.

Leave it to the players on the ice to try and change my mood.  Definitely they were in it to wow me.

Right now I have tickets for tomorrow nights game for Hurricanes at Flyers.  I have some things that may keep me from going.  Everyone please send good thoughts that I do not have to alter my plans.

10/23/10 Phantoms at Bears

Phantoms lost this game 5-1.  The story that the scoreboard/sheet doesn't tell is that the Phantoms did not give up in this game.  The one goal came with 4 minutes left in the third.  Now less penalties and better team defense would have made this a much different score.  I did not go tonight but it was a 4-2 loss.  To me that means they learned a bit from the previous night.  The Phantoms are a really young team.  They will mature over the course of the season.

I wore my purple Danny Syvret Phantoms jersey to this game.  You will see a few phantoms jerseys in the crowd but the Purple it truly stands out.  I am not one to ever sit during intermission (and sometimes whole periods).  Walking around the concourse, while no one said anything to me, you could see the looks of disgust as they saw that I was a fan for the opposition.

I got a few pictures in warmups before getting asked to move as the seat holders showed up to where I had camped out.  Plus I got some very good game pictures.  Hershey is a great arena.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/sets/72157625232894726/

My next game is Flyers on 10/30.

10/21/10 Ducks at Flyers

Alright the slacker I am did not do any video for this game.

I was really happy to see one of my favorite players in Danny Syvret.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/5104324545/in/set-72157625093618531/

I wore my Flyers Danny Syvret jersey for the game.  That will probably be the only time I wear a jersey to a Flyers game all year.

Here is the full picture set from the game
http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/sets/72157625093618531/with/5104324545/

I thought that the Flyers played pretty well last night.  I would say that it seems like they really need a garbage goal or two.  That would have made all the difference in the world.

Tomorrow is the first road trip of the season.  I and a friend are off to see the Phantoms play in Hershey.  Hershey is a great place to see a game if you have not gone before.  They have a really nice building and I do not feel that there is a bad seat in the house.

Not a far road trip for the first one of the season but a trip all the same.  Until Sunday when I post again.

Flyers Home Opener 10/11/10

First I will apologize for not writing this post up sooner.  It was kinda a long week.

Videos everyone wants the video
These were too long for Flickr so we are back to using youtube

Second video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVQXBG6kMcg

 Third Video
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-9yQ2nysDE

One of the best things that you will hear in these videos is the reactions of the fans around me.  At times it does make it hard to hear the content of the video but I think you will get a true feel of what it was like to be at the game watching these videos.

Oh yes there are pictures too
http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/sets/72157625028103923/

I did find it interesting that the Flyers took a nap for a portion of this game.  I had thought they were past that bad habit.  I guess not.

I am going tomorrow night to Flyers vs Pens.  I hope to do some different things then follow my updates on Twitter.

Flyers Camp opening weekend

Its hard to have shenanigans when there is such a crowd welcoming back the Flyers by attending camp.

I looked on the ice for these.  I found a couple of things

One was Ville Leino putting on a show with a puck.  I did not grab the full show but I can tell you this guy was working this puck like the best hacky sacker I know.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/5010118840/

My second video was the last leg of skating drills.  Yes by this time you are tired and have more then had enough of these sprints.  Carter & Richards kept pace with one another

http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/5010116326/in/photostream/

Other fabulous things I saw Players do include high fiving the fans on the way in & out of the "Meet the Flyers" taping
http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/5005782901/in/set-72157624992286346/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/5005846289/in/set-72157624992286346/

Not too bad for an opening weekend.

I did find it interesting that for the Meet the Flyers taping that Guerin was included but Hartnell was not.

I definitely was impressed with Zherdev, Bobdrovsky, Carter, Leino, Homstrom, and a few others.  I think only time will tell what will happen.

Preseason games start tomorrow I think this will be the first real test of what we should expect to see from the young and up coming players.

Welcome to Shenanigans Hockey

Hello all and welcome to Shenanigan Hockey.

I have had a blog before and I decided the way it was going did not truly represent everything that makes up my hockey experiences.   Hockey to me has always been an extended family.  I love meeting new people and making more new hockey friends.  There is always a bit of mischief that tends to go on.  I hope to capture that spirit here.  I do not know that it is a thing that can be captured.

At any rate, I hope to have fun and I hope that all who read this have fun as well.

Things you should expect to see mentioned in the future on this blog:
                           The Philadelphia Flyers
                           The Adirondack Phantoms
                           The Calgary Flames
                           The Abbotsford Heat
                           The London Knights
                            Mike Cammalleri
                            Danny Syvret

Why would you see such mentions.  Well these are my favorite teams and favorite players.  I would be amiss in my hockey adventures not to mention them.

Welcome and I hope you enjoy the adventure.
