Hockey Season is back

I should be writting so much more right now that hockey season is back.
With the return of hockey season there has been a flood of new players on twitter.  Because I definitely am not able to keep up with all of the players and their tweets I am discontinuing twitter points.  It may return now and then but overall I will not be keeping it as regular as I had been last season.

This season has been tough for me so far.  I physically can not stand to watch the Flyers because of Jagr.  I know its the crest on the front not the name on the back I am truly struggling with this and hope that he does not stay.

I have lots of great road trips in the works.  I recently bought tickets to see the Flames for a portion of their east coast swing.
I have to work in an AHL trip to see Danny Syvret and I have some obstacles at the moment.

I have been to 2 Flyers games so far.  Here are the links for the pictures.  There are not many Flyers pictures as like I said I truly physically can not stand to watch with Jagr.

Hurricanes at Flyers

I did get my Winter Classic, Alumni and Phantoms outdoor game tickets.  I am very excited for these games.  I promise to blog and take as many pictures as possible for these games.

Ok that is all for tonight I promise to write more frequently in coming weeks.  Take care and good hockey!

Flyers Prospect Camp and Twitter points

First the Twitter points.

As previously noted we have

@nedluka 20 points (Psycho Airport wife was very entertaining yesterday)
@martybiron43 10 points for his reaction to the Flyers trades
@mattcarle25 5 points for chirping about the Pens draft choice

The new standings are

@commie22 40 points for fan interaction and Commodore 64
@mcammalleri13 20 points for fan interaction
@martybiron43 10 points for fan interaction
@b_ryan9 5 points for various player interaction
@jvreemer21 5 points for chirping

Bringing totals too

@commie22 40 points
@martybiron43 20 points
@nedluka 20 points
@mcammalleri13 20 points
@b_ryan9 5 points
@jvreemer21 5 points

Ok on to the real post:

7/10/11 Flyers Prospect camp
I have gone to a few of these now and never have I seen so many basic drills.  I get the feeling that is very much the message being sent here.  That when it comes to these drills no one really stands out and everyone could use work on the basics.  I think that it is a great foundation for these players to make sure that their basics are in line.
For many of the players attending this years camp it is their 2nd or 3rd round of this preparation.  I do not know what it is like inside their meetings but to me the message of back to basics shines through in the on ice part.

I did not feel any one player stood out above another.

Here are pictures and videos.

trades & off season twitter points

First lets do some twitter points.

Stanley Cup being awarded means now it is really the off season and Summer Twitter Points can begin.
I have opened this up to any OHL, CHL, WHL, AHL, or NHL player on twitter.
Folks I recommend you follow
Ned Lukacevic @nedluka
Michael Grabner @grabs40
Marty Biron @martybiron43
Bobby Ryan @b_ryan9
Joffrey Lupul @jlupul
Matt Carle @MattCarle25

Sadly Stefan Legein no longer has a twitter.  I will miss his tweets

Ok points
@nedluka 20 points (Psycho Airport wife was very entertaining yesterday)
@martybiron43 10 points for his reaction to the Flyers trades
@mattcarle25 5 points for chirping about the Pens draft choice

I know I don't see everything that gets posted so if you see a player tweet some thing memorable please please share with me for points consideration.

Flyers and Calgary trade the players whose jerseys I have....
Maybe I am to blame my curse still holds.  Players I get jerseys for get hurt & traded/don't resign.
I definitely understand and don't understand all at the same time the flyers decision to trade Mike Richards and Jeff Carter.  From the legal department point of view a huge sigh of relief these guys are gone.  Their off ice reputations proceed them.  From an educated fan view these guys were the core of our team.  They are in their prime and put up points.  I think they needed something to kick them into gear again that they had plateaued.  We won't get to know what it would have been like to have Richards with out Carter.

Flames have done a similar thing to the Flyers.  They got rid of a leadership person who was once rumored to have led their own faction in the locker room.  Regher seemed fine once Neon Dion was gone.  Back to his steady veteran presence controlled self.  The Flames were back on track but only in the 2nd half of the season.  Maybe the locker room did need more of a shake up.

It will be interesting to see how both of the teams do after all these changes.  I do not think either team is done tweaking their rosters.

now that I have had time to digest it...

I have had a month to deal with the Flames not making the playoffs after their great stretch run.  I have had only a couple of days to deal with the Flyers elimination from the post season.
Neither of the above scenarios left a good taste in my mouth Flames deserved a better fate.  They had the heart, grit and momentum going for them.  I would have loved to seen them tare it up as an 8th seed.
The Flyers stumbled their way into the playoffs and failed to perform in the 2nd round.  Considering how Jekyl & Hyde they were down the stretch I am not at all surprised they had an early exit.  I do not think anyone who has watched the Flyers since February should be surprised at the Flyers early exit.
It has been interesting reading all the post assigning blame.  Pronger said it best in his CSN interview "you win as a team and you loose as a team".  Winning and loosing are both infectious at times.
For me I know when I lose I question myself completely.  I question and analyze my entire performance.  I am my worst critic.  That doesn't build my confidence.  At times that is what takes it down.  Just going off of what I do I can't imagine how those players feel.  They can't play another game til September or a game that counts til October,  That is a long time to chew on your last performance.  No one is going to put any greater blame on each of them then themselves.

For all the couch critics out there think about if you were in the players shoes a bit.

ok other things now....
I did not accomplish near enough shenanigans as I would have liked to have accomplished this hockey season.  For next season I hope to have a little more fun and make things a bit more shenanigans for those following along.  Suggestions are always welcome.

There will be summer updates.  You can count on that.  Check in after the Stanley cup is awarded for summer twitter points.  Can Danny Syvret maintain his grip on the top spot guess we will find out?

Another Slacker update

I get lazy at this time of year.  First let's do twitter points
I saw a Phantoms and Flyers games in the last 2 weeks.  Mike Cammalleri had a great evening this past week going back and for with Mike Commodore he gets 5 points for this efforts.

Danny Syvret (@dannysyvret) 153
Andrew Rowe (@RoweAndrew) 140
Greg Moore (@mrballoonhands) 120
Mike Testwuide (@MikeTestwuide) 120
Stefan Legein (@Stefanlegein) 108
Matt Carle (@mattcarle25) 60
James VanRiemsdyk (@JVReemer21) 60
Matt Moulson (@mmoulson) 40
Michael Grabner (@grabs40) 20
Scottie Upshall (ScottieUpshall) 20
Paul Bissonette (@biznasty2point0) 20
Mike Cammalleri (@mcammalleri13) 5
Rob Schremp (@Robschremp) 4

I declare Danny Syvret the twitter points winner and Rob Schremp the loser of this regular season contest.

Twitter points summer tweeting edition will start once the Stanley Cup is awarded.  Any and All NHL, AHL. & OHL players on twitter will be included in this list.  5 point for making me laugh and 10 points for tweeting back to me.

Now on to the good stuff.  The pictures from the 2 games I attended.

first Phantoms
http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/sets/72157626344213619/

Yes I know already saw the Crunch and Phantoms go at it.  Same results Phantoms won.  This time by a bigger margin.  It was a good game.  I liked the Phantoms logos but not the lettering on the jerseys for this game.  These jerseys were auctioned off post game with Leighton's going for $1,000.

Second Flyers
http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/sets/72157626344709059/

Flyers finally won a game at home.  Maybe this is a sign of things to come.  I will say that it remains to be seen if that was the tipping point to finally sustain the momentum needed to carry them forward with confidence in the first round of the playoffs.  We will find out later this week.  Stay tuned.

That is all I have for right now.  until next time.

I am a slacker here is an update

Definitely I am a slacker.  First a twitter points update.  It was pointed out that I should add Matt Carle @mattcarle25 and James Van Riemsdyk @JVReemer21 to my twitter points list.  I am adding them but only as of the beginning of February. I am also adding now former phantom Greg Moore back to the beginning of the season.  Some new comers to the list since I saw the Coyotes play in Philly.  As expected Mike Cammalleri did not play and falls to last place.

Danny Syvret (@dannysyvret) 133
Andrew Rowe (@RoweAndrew) 120
Greg Moore (@mrballoonhands) 120
Mike Testwuide (@MikeTestwuide) 100
Stefan Legein (@Stefanlegein) 88
Matt Carle (@mattcarle25) 40

Twitter Points update and a Busy hockey week

Danny Syvret and Stefan Legein are getting 5 points each for entertaining me this morning as well as reminding me I never did this post last night.

Danny Syvret (@dannysyvret) 73
Andrew Rowe (@RoweAndrew) 60
Mike Testwuide (@MikeTestwuide) 40
Stefan Legein (@Stefanlegein) 28
Matt Moulson (@mmoulson) 20
Mike Cammalleri (@mcammalleri13) 20
Rob Schremp (@Robschremp) 4

I am attending several Phantoms games over this next stretch.  Provided everything goes well I will be adding 20 points for each game.

Mike Cammalleri was injured this week I do not think he will be playing on Tuesday when I go to see the Flyers play the Canadiens.  You never know but knowing my luck that will be the case.

This little stretch is pretty busy for me.  I saw the Flyers Tuesday night.  As you can tell I never got a post up about that game but I will give you the link for the pictures.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/sets/72157625860955234/

I have 3 Phantoms games and one Flyers game with in the next week.  Please check back for Pictures and other updates.

I am really looking forward to tonight's Phantoms game.  I miss the Phantoms.  It had become my Friday night activity.  I am glad they are here for a Friday night game.  I feel with the amount of Twitter interaction that the Phantoms as just as close and familiar as the Flyers for me.  I am glad that so many of them have embraced that media.  I hope that all of those out there who are always saying bring up this one and that one come out and take a look at those players.  Game is on TV tonight too.  If you can not come watch in person watch on TV.  Take a look at these guys you want on the big roster.

I do feel really bad for the Phantoms.  They play here in Philly tonight then tomorrow in Glens Falls then Sunday in Hershey.  That is quite a few hours on the bus.  I would hope that the AHL schedule makers look next year.  It may have been better to do home and home with Hershey or Wilkes Barre  or maybe to have had Wilkes Barre, Binghamton, then Hershey to keep travel time to a minimum.  I think it will be hard on the Phantoms this weekend with all of that travel.  I will see though and let you know.

Twitter points update & Hertiage Classic > Winter Classic

 Twitter Points update:

I am giving Stefan Legein 20 points for giving his heart out on Twitter about the World Juniors.  I think it was commendable the point he was making

Danny Syvret (@dannysyvret) 68
Andrew Rowe (@RoweAndrew) 60
Mike Testwuide (@MikeTestwuide) 40
Stefan Legein (@Stefanlegein) 23
Matt Moulson (@mmoulson) 20
Mike Cammalleri (@mcammalleri13) 20
Rob Schremp (@Robschremp) 4

My games for January changed a bit so does the future possible points.
Future possible points Danny Syvret 60, Stefan Legein 60, Mike Testwuide 60, Andrew Rowe 60, & Mike Cammalleri 20.
Heritage Classic thoughts

Maybe it is the Flames fan in me but I was not at all excited about this years Winter Classic knowing that the Flames will be playing the Canadians outside in February.  I thought that the HBO series helped fuel this years Winter Classic anticipation but not enjoying either of the teams playing makes it hard to keep my attention.  For me the Heritage classic has two of my favorite things the Calgary Flames and Mike Cammalleri.  Truly unless Cammalleri went back to being a Flame and the Flames played the Flyers, I couldn't be much happier.

I have noticed that most of the talk has moved forward to who will be in next years Winter Classic but there is still one more NHL outdoor game this year.  I think that we need to make sure that is as much of a success as the Winter Classic.

I urge you all to tell your friends and your neighbors to watch this year's Heritage classic.  It will take place on Sunday February 20th it will be televised on Versus.

First I want to say that if you are not following Phantoms players Danny Syvret and Stefan Legein you truly are missing out on some really funny things.  Please follow these guys.

It was pointed out that I need to add Mike Testwuide & Andrew Rowe to my points list as I have seen them play and they are on twitter.

Danny Syvret (@dannysyvret) 48

Andrew Rowe (@RoweAndrew) 40
Mike Testwuide (@MikeTestwuide) 20
Matt Moulson (@mmoulson) 20
Mike Cammalleri (@mcammalleri13) 20

Rob Schremp (@Robschremp) 4

Future possible points Danny Syvret 40, Stefan Legein 40, Mike Testwuide 40, Andrew Rowe 40, & Mike Cammalleri 20

Ok well by now you have read all the analysis on the Sharks game so I am not even going to try to say anything further especially since the Flyers have already played again vs Toronto and won.  Who cares about the loss 2 days ago.

Just look at the pictures then....

http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/sets/72157625566740906/

My next hockey adventure is a Phantoms game.  Hopefully weather permitting I will attend.  Right now the weather looks promising.

12/4/10 Devils at Flyers & twitter points

I decided that I was so entertained by Stefan Legein this week that I am giving him 5 more points for his effort.

 Danny Syvret (@dannysyvret) 48
Matt Moulson (@mmoulson) 20
Mike Cammalleri (@mcammalleri13) 20
Stefan Legein (@Stefanlegein) 10
Rob Schremp (@Robschremp) 4

Future possible points Danny Syvret 40, Stefan Legein 40, Mike Cammalleri 20.

Devils at Flyers I felt that this game was one of those that the Devils like to lull you to sleep.  Maybe it is just because it was my first day game of the season.  I was glad the Flyers pulled it out in the end but I will say I was not sure about a good portion of the game as to how it may end.

The new camera worked well... I took a different spot for warmups that I could try some close up shots

11/22/10 Habs @ Flyers and Twitter points update

First the good news I successfully saw Mike Cammalleri play in the Center.  The first time since he has been a Hab.  20 points to him for that.

Second the bad news Stefan Legein is injured, will not play on Saturday.  I won't subtract his points til he doesn't play but I think you can see its coming.

Danny Syvret (@dannysyvret) 23
Matt Moulson (@mmoulson) 20
Stefan Legein (@Stefanlegein) 20
Mike Cammalleri (@mcammalleri13) 20
Rob Schremp (@Robschremp) 4

Expected points changes Danny Syvret +20, Stefan Legein -20, and Mike Cammalleri +20

Habs @ Flyers

This game to me was about two things.  Getting to watch Mike Cammalleri in person and testing out my new camera.  Both were successful.  The new camera is going to take getting used to especially the zoom at its highest setting.

So that you can compare here is a picture I took of the snow wagon with the camera I had been using
http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/5132740860/in/set-72157625156868995/

Here is a picture I took of the same wagon last night
http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/5203375468/
You can see how much closer I am able to get with the new camera.

Here is the full set of pictures.  Warmups are all pretty much Habs folks.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/neat1325/sets/72157625457147372/
Back to the game itself  Mike was not the factor he usually is in these games.  I felt the Habs started strong and ended poor and the Flyers started poor, got lucky and pulled it off.  I was surprised at how disciplined the Flyers were in this game despite their lackluster start.

Have to see how the next game goes.  I think almost everyone knows how displeased I am with the NHL schedule makers for putting Calgary vs the Flyers on this Friday.  Black Friday the one day each year I can not attend a Flyers game.  I work til after the game starts.  I am sure many more of you out there are working a longer day then I am that day but I can never see the annual Black Friday matinee.  Ah well that is what DVR's are for right?

Next update will be this weekend after the Phantoms visit the Bears.  Should be interesting to see a rebuilt team + the new/old coach.

Syvret returns and twitter points update

Well I did not go to Syracuse as I had originally planned this past weekend so twitter points continue to stand as

 Danny Syvret (@dannysyvret) 23
Matt Moulson (@mmoulson) 20
Stefan Legein (@Stefanlegein) 20
Rob Schremp (@Robschremp) 4
Mike Cammalleri (@mcammalleri13) 0

Potential points Danny Syvret 20, Stefan Legein 20 and Mike Cammalleri 20.

Mike's points should get added after tonight and Syvret & Legein after Saturday.

Tonight I am attending the Habs at the Flyers.  I am again testing another new camera.  I think this one will be much more to my satisfaction as it is essentially a newer version of my current camera.   Follow my twitter stream tonight for pictures and updates.  Just a reminder I am a Mike Cammalleri fan.

Syvret is returned to the Flyers organization.  I know that everyone expects me to be on top of the world at his return.  I would say that I am not.  I do not see Syvret getting his NHL shot with his return to the Flyers.  I most want to see Syvret play full time at the NHL level.  Anaheim looked like a bright ray of hope for Syvret to keep with the NHL squad out of camp and then reality came.  He was up and down for October & November.  Ducks having complied too many defensemen and the injured now getting healthy Syvret was now on the outside.
Flyers trade and bring him back.  Where it is very much the same situation as the Ducks.  The Flyers have 7 healthy d on the roster with one coming back from injury in the near future.  Syvret most likely will not see ice time for the Flyers this season.
Syvret chose to sign elsewhere this summer.  In my opinion I would not expect him to be resigned by the Flyers next season either.

I did find it odd that the Flyers traded to get 2 players who chose to pass on the Flyers for other teams.  Is that Holmgren sending a message to players?
